Alternative Acres is a unique, therapeutic farm-based education provision in Nottingham, offering a safe, nurturing environment where young people can thrive. We work primarily with children and young people who benefit from a more personalised, hands-on approach to learning, outside of mainstream school settings.
Who We Support
- Young people aged 11-16 years
- Those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Pupils struggling with mainstream education
- Children in care or at risk of exclusion
- Young people in need of emotional or social support
At Alternative Acres, we use nature-based, practical learning to build confidence, independence, and core academic skills. Learners take part in a mix of activities including:
- Functional Skills in English and Maths (with online support via BKSB)
- Animal care and therapeutic interaction with farm animals
- Horticulture and outdoor learning
- Life skills and independence building
- Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support
- Confidence-building through structured, trauma-informed engagement
