Alzheimer's Disease International

Overview

The global voice on dementia

Tackling dementia requires efforts at global, regional and local levels. We work by empowering Alzheimer and dementia associations to offer care and support for people with dementia and their care partners. Globally, we strive to focus attention on dementia, maintain it as a global health priority, and encourage investment in research.

Alzheimer's Disease International is an umbrella group of 77 Alzheimer's associations throughout the world. Each of their members is the national Alzheimer's association in their country who support people with dementia and their families.

Their key role is to build and strengthen Alzheimer's associations throughout the world, so they are better able to meet the needs of people with dementia and their families.

Many of their members are in developing countries where health and social services are limited so the Alzheimer's association may be the only support available, making their role crucial.

Alzheimer's Disease International aims to:

  • Support and strengthen member associations in their activities.
  • Encourage the formation of new Alzheimer's associations.
  • Collaborate with the World Health Organisation and other international organizations with similar interests.
  • Stimulate public and political awareness at national and international level.
  • Support research into the prevalence and impact of dementia in developing countries.
