Children's Mental Health Support, Emotionally Based School Avoidance - Primary Wellbeing CIC

Overview

Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm

Safe Spaces is a school-based early intervention programme that supports the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people. Delivered by Primary Wellbeing CIC, the programme offers both 1:1 sessions and small group work, tailored to meet the needs of each child.

What makes Safe Spaces so effective is that it takes place within the school setting, removing the barriers that can come with external referrals or unfamiliar environments. Children are supported in a place they know, at a time that fits into their school day, helping to reduce stress and improve engagement. This consistent, familiar approach is particularly powerful for children experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

For children struggling to attend school due to anxiety, low confidence, or overwhelming emotions, Safe Spaces offers a gentle, relationship-led intervention. Sessions focus on building trust, emotional safety, and a sense of belonging. Whether through 1:1 therapeutic play or small group activities, children are given space to explore their feelings, learn new coping strategies, and reconnect with their learning environment.

Over time, children gain confidence, resilience, and the emotional tools they need to manage challenges both in and out of school—laying the foundations for improved attendance, wellbeing, and educational outcomes.
