Overview
Nottingham City Council aims to promote family time between children in care and their families which is positive and meaningful.
Family Time is important and can contribute to:
preparing a child for a return home
maintaining relationships and connections within families
assisting a child in grieving for losses entailed in separation
supporting the development of identity
providing professional help to a fostered child's parents regarding how to respond to their child's behaviour.
Family Time has a role in keeping children up to date with information about their family and it can help young people to decide how they manage that relationship later on.
Provision
Nottingham City has a dedicated Family Time Centre - Helen's Place. In addition, we can arrange family time sessions at community venues that better meet the needs of the children or families.
Our office is open from 8.30am. Family Time can take place between 9am - 6pm, Monday - Friday.
All Family Time Supervisors work closely with the children's allocated social worker and carers, as well as families to ensure sessions run smoothly and are beneficial to the children and young people involved in them.
Workers monitor and assess the sessions which contribute to the overall assessments carried out by the Social Work Teams.
