Overview
The Nottingham City Educational Psychology Service (EPS) supports children and young people aged 0–25 in Nottingham City. We work with families, early years settings, schools and colleges.
We help in different ways. Sometimes we contribute to statutory work, such as an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment. Most often, we work with settings to improve support for children and young people in day-to-day learning.
Schools and academies in Nottingham City can buy in support from our educational psychologists. Together, we agree priorities for the setting and decide the best way to help. For example we might;
- Work with staff to develop whole-school approaches (sometimes called “systemic” work)
- Provide consultation and support for adults who know a child or young person well
- Have individual involvement for a specific child or young person
A setting’s SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator) usually contacts us to discuss concerns and next steps. If we are asked to work directly with your child or young person, the setting will refer to us and will ask for your consent first.
We work in partnership with families, settings and the local authority. Our aim is to help children and young people feel heard, included and understood, and to support them to make progress.
