Habilitation Officers - Nottinghamshire County Council Hearing and Vision Specialist Support Team

Overview

The Habilitation Officers work within the Hearing and Vision Specialist Support Team as part of Nottinghamshire County Council's SEND Inclusion Service. The Officers work with families, babies, children and young people who have a significant visual impairment and who are resident in Nottinghamshire.

Any Nottinghamshire school/setting where a young person with a visual impairment is on roll can also seek advice and support from an Habilitation Officer.

Habilitation Officers offer advice to families on paediatric mobility, sensory development and the development of physical skills.

They can offer advice and training to young people and students on:

  • Personal independence skills
  • Travel Training
  • Social Skills
  • Mobility Skills.

A Teacher of the Visually Impaired will normally make a referral to the Habilitation Officer directly.

Occasionally requests come from medical colleagues, schools/settings, young people and parents.
