Physical disability specialist services (PDSS)

Overview

Physical disability specialist services (PDSS) is a part of the Statutory Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Service. The team provide advisory support to schools and other providers working with children and young people at pre-school, school age, 16-18 provision and transition into Post 18 provision, to promote the inclusion and access to education of pupils who have complex physical disabilities and/or medical needs.

PDSS staff are involved in assessing children’s educational and physical access support needs by;

  • assessing and making recommendations for adaptations to buildings by support from the Access Officer
  • advising on and providing specialist equipment
  • training and support to school staff, including assessment and training in safe manual handling
  • provision of ICT assessment and equipment to maximise access the school curriculum
