The Balanced System Pathway

Supporting Children's Speech, Language and Communication Development

Overview

The Balanced System Pathway is an interactive online resource designed to help parents, carers and professionals find information, advice, and support to promote children's speech, language and communication development.

The Pathway brings together a wide range of local and national resources and is based on the Balanced System® Framework, which supports children's communication needs through five key areas:

  • Family Support
  • Environment
  • Workforce
  • Identification
  • Intervention

Resources are organised into three levels of support:

Universal Support

Information and resources for all children, families, carers and professionals, promoting speech, language and communication development.

Targeted Support

Resources for children and young people who may be experiencing difficulties with speech, language or communication, or where concerns have already been identified.

Specialist Support

More specialised information and support for children and young people with complex speech, language and communication needs.

The Pathway helps users identify appropriate resources, tools and support services based on the age and needs of the child or young person. It is designed to support collaborative working between families, early years settings, schools, health professionals and other services.

Who is it for?

  • Parents and carers
  • Early years practitioners
  • Childminders
  • School staff
  • SENCOs
