The Gender Clinic

Overview

We see people with a range of issues to do with gender, identity and sexuality.
Not everyone who comes to us will be sure that they want to change gender. We are happy to see people who wish to have support around exploring issues to do with their gender. You do not have to have any kind of diagnosis before coming to see us. You do not need to have had psychotherapy before attending.
We will see anyone over the age of 17 who experiences distress about their assigned gender. We also accept referrals of 16 year olds who will be 17 at the time of their first appointment
If you have a significant mental illness it is important for you to have it well managed before attending. However, a diagnosis such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc, does not mean that you cannot be seen, as trans issues can also arise for people with such diagnoses.
Our clinic incorporates psychiatric and psychological assessment, endocrine assessment and treatment, and supportive psychotherapy if required.
The service has close links with surgical services providing sex reassignment surgery.
