Urban Bushcraft Holiday Club - Bulwell Wood

Overview

Urban Bushcraft Holiday Clubs are not your average holiday childcare.

Based in a private woodland in Nottinghamshire, our Ousted-registered holiday clubs run from 9:00am–3:00pm and provide families with reliable, high-quality holiday childcare that children genuinely love attending.

Children spend their days outdoors learning real bushcraft and survival skills—from shelter building and fire-lighting to woodland crafts, exploration and team challenges. We believe in real skills and real responsibility, giving children meaningful roles, hands-on tasks and the chance to take healthy risks in a carefully managed environment. This builds confidence, independence and pride in what they can achieve.

Sessions are structured but child-led, allowing children to follow their curiosity while being supported by experienced, attentive staff. We are proudly inclusive, welcoming mixed ages, abilities and neurodiversity, and creating a calm, respectful space where every child is supported to thrive.

For families, Urban Bushcraft offers peace of mind: a consistent routine, clear communication, strong safeguarding and a setting where children are active, engaged and cared for throughout the day—not just entertained. For children, it’s a place to feel capable, trusted and part of something exciting.

Urban Bushcraft Holiday Clubs deliver real skills, real responsibility and real confidence—all wrapped up in dependable, Ofsted-registered holiday childcare.

Childcare financial support options are also available for eligible families.

Contact

Our holiday clubs take place in a beautiful private woodland in Nottinghamshire, giving children the rare opportunity to spend their days immersed in nature, away from screens, traffic and busy indoor settings.

The woodland offers a large, open space with clear boundaries, natural features to explore, and a dedicated base camp where children gather, eat lunch and take part in group activities. There are sheltered areas for wet or cold weather, meaning sessions run comfortably in all seasons.

Children are outdoors all day, with space to move, climb, build, create and play. The setting naturally supports imagination, confidence and calm, and is especially well suited to children who thrive with fresh air, freedom and hands-on experiences.

Parents are given clear guidance on what to bring and how to dress for the day, helping children stay warm, dry and comfortable while they enjoy everything the woodland has to offer.

Dietary needs

Has provisionYes

We take dietary requirements seriously and work closely with parents and carers to make sure childrens needs are understood and met.

Families are asked to share any dietary requirements, allergies or intolerances in advance of sessions. This information is clearly recorded and shared with staff so everyone is aware and able to support the child safely.

Children bring their own packed lunches and snacks, which allows families to fully manage dietary needs in a way that feels familiar and safe for their child. Where food is used as part of an activity, we plan carefully, adapt where needed, and ensure suitable alternatives are available so all children can take part.
We are experienced in supporting a wide range of dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances, medical requirements, cultural and religious diets, and selective eating linked to additional needs. Staff are attentive at mealtimes and encourage a calm, inclusive approach so children feel comfortable and supported.

Parents and carers are encouraged to speak to us at any point if they have questions or concerns, and we are always happy to adapt our approach to meet individual needs.

Special needs (children)

Has provisionYes

We have over 8 years of experience working with children with special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH and learning disabilities. Supporting children with additional needs is a core part of our provision, not an add-on.
We work closely each term with the Autism and Learning Disability Keyworking Service, adapting our sessions to meet individual needs and providing consistent, supportive environments where children can feel safe, understood and capable. This partnership helps us ensure our approach is informed, inclusive and responsive.
Our outdoor, hands-on setting is particularly well suited to children who benefit from movement, sensory regulation, clear routines and practical learning. We regularly support children who may struggle in busy or indoor environments, offering flexibility, patience and relational support to help them engage at their own pace.
We work collaboratively with parents and carers, valuing their knowledge of their child and using this to tailor our approach and support positive experiences for every child.
