Nottinghamshire SEND Place Planning Strategy 2021 to 2026

The SEND Place Planning Strategy focuses on how the County Council will deliver sufficient provision to meet needs both in mainstream and specialist educational settings over the next five years for children and young people with SEND.

Nottinghamshire local area SEND strategy 2024 to 2027

The local area SEND strategy has been developed with stakeholders including parents, carers, and children and young people with SEND. The Council's vision is to champion and improve the experiences and outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities by ensuring that they are:

  • listened to and heard
  • they are the healthiest they can be
  • are safe and feel safe
  • accepted and valued
  • able to enjoy, have fun
  • prepared for their futures

Local area SEND (Ofsted and Care Quality Commission) inspection Nottinghamshire 2023

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspected the Nottinghamshire local area to assess how effective the local education, health and care services are at identifying, and meeting the needs of, children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 0 to 25.

SEND Local Area Inspection Report Update 2025

Ofsted and CQC carried out a monitoring inspection in July 2025 and have identified that improvements have been made in relation to each of the areas for priority action, from the inspection report in 2023.

Ofsted has found that Nottinghamshire is taking “effective action” to improve services for children and young people with special education needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

Nottinghamshire SEND improvement programme

The Nottinghamshire SEND improvement programme and the supporting action plan will take forward the learning from the Ofsted and CQC inspection in 2023 and the areas for improvement identified through the inspection.

Nottinghamshire SEND improvement plan (priority action plan)

The SEND improvement plan, also known as the priority action plan, is part of the Nottinghamshire SEND Improvement Programme and details the actions that the local area will take to address the two priority actions identified by the OFSTED and CCQ inspection in 2023.

Nottinghamshire SEND Partnership Assurance and Improvement Group (PAIG)

The purpose of the Nottinghamshire SEND Partnership Assurance and Improvement Group (PAIG) is to be assured that the lived experiences and outcomes of children and young people with SEND and their families are maximised.

PAIG monitor and ensure improved performance of SEND services across Nottinghamshire, and that these improvements are linked to the lived experiences and outcomes for children and young people.

SEND Local Offer Development Group

The SEND Local Offer Development Group sets out the ambitions and priorities for Nottinghamshire’s SEND Local Offer and any development work. This also aligns the development of the SEND Local Offer with council strategic priorities and statutory requirements.

The membership of the group consists of professionals from different service areas including education, health and social care, and representation from the Nottinghamshire Parent Carer Forum (Notts PCF).

This ensures that collective responsibility and decision making can be taken in terms of priorities for development of the SEND Local Offer.
