Overview
Patients are referred to the service if they can't go to the dentist because of some impairments, disability or complex medical condition.
The Special Needs Dental Service is provided by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS trust. You may be referred to the service if you are unable to access routine dental care in a general dental practice due to some impairment, disability or complex medical condition.
This may include:
- Learning disabilities
- Severe Mental Health problems
- Autistic Spectrum Disorders
- Severe physical problems
- Children in Care
- Very young children with extensive decay
- Severe medical problems
- Life limiting conditions
- Very nervous children

Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm

Accessing our service
Your GP, dentist or another health professional can refer you to this service.
Once you are accepted into the service we will contact you or your carer to make an appointment for a first assessment.
If you need emergency dental care and don't have access to a dentist, you can come to the Walk in Centre on London Road, Nottingham. See below for opening times.

The special needs dental service provides a direct booking service which allows dental practitioners to refer children who are suffering from acute dental pain and require removal of teeth under general anaesthesia.
The exodontia service is carried out at the GA Suite Maxillo-facial Department, B Floor, West Block Queens Medical Centre.
