Child safety

Find guidance to help families to keep their children safe from accidents and prevent serious injuries

Minor bumps and grazes are a routine part of growing up, and all children are likely to suffer them as they start to move about and become independent, but knowing about risks can help prevent some accidents and serious injuries.

Thanks to funding from the Office of Product Safety & Standards and advice from organisations such as the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT), the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), Lullaby Trust and the NHS this guidance has been put together on the Virtual Family Hub.

Choking can happen with any foods, but ‘firm foods’, bones and small round foods that can easily get stuck in the throat present a higher risk. To learn more about preventing this, visit the NHS Best Start in Life website.
